Fiddle with a Function Machine

The Function Machine game builds mental math skills and has always been a favorite of my math club students. Now you can play it at home:

Choose your type of rule, if you wish — or for the best challenge, click the Random button. Then type a number in the machine and click Activate. The machine will give you back an answer.

Try several numbers. Can you figure out what the machine is doing?

When you are pretty sure of the answer, click the arrow to reveal the machine’s program. Were you right?

Murderous Maths

If you don’t mind a little blood and gore in your logic game, try this “marvelously barbaric and bloodthirsty” challenge:

Click on a group of matching heads to make them disappear. The more heads you can chop in one go, the bigger your score! What is your barbarian rating?

Hex-a-Hop: Download and Enjoy

Hex-a-hop is one of my family’s favorite mind-bending logic games. The goal is to get rid of all the green hexes without drowning your little girl character, but of course, it’s not as easy as she makes it look:

Connect the Computers

If you’ve ever tried to set up a computer network, you know how confusing it can be. In this game, however, it’s fun!

Your job is to rotate all the pieces so that every computer is connected to the server and there are no lose ends in your network. Click on a tile to rotate it: right click = clockwise and left click = counter-clockwise. If you want to lock a tile in place, hold your mouse over it and press the space bar.

There is no time limit. Netwalk is scored by the number of clicks it takes you to rotate everything into place.

For more tips, check out the Netwalk Tutorial Page.

Mastermind Online Game

Mastermind (board game)

Do you know the logic game Mastermind? It’s one of my favorites!

Play it online here:

In this version, you get only 8 attempts to solve the puzzle, but this challenge is balanced out by knowing that the colors are not allowed to repeat.

That means there are only 6,720 possible arrangements of the beads. Hey, how hard can that be?
